Brief description and aims of work

Lund University (SE LUND01) is one of the largest universities in Scandinavia and with about 36.000 students. The faculties represent all subjects. The research and the research funding are extensive with research centres, centres of excellence financed by external grants. This goes for the National Institute for Health Sciences situated which is in collaboration with Gothenburg University. It is multidisciplinary and the research focuses among other subjects the elderly and their health, care and social service.

 

The departments involved in this study are that of Social Work, that of Health Sciences and the National Institute for Health Sciences, were Ingalill R Hallberg, professor, is director. The Department of Social Work is well known internationally for the research related to social service as well as the research related to demographics and the financial impact of the demographic transition taking place worldwide. Their research was evaluated as excellent by an international panel, 2008. The research group by Ingalill R. Hallberg on care provided to the elderly is internationally recognized and about 180 publications in scientific journals was published from the group during the last 10 years focusing issues related to the elderly and their care and service, health, health complaints, family caregiving and interventions to improve care quality. Her research group was evaluated to be excellent by the international panel. Ulla M Emilsson is Associate Professor in Social Work, Senior Lecturer, PhD in Social Work, MS in Psychology and University Diploma in Psychology, MS in Social Work and trained Social Worker. She has long and extensive research in European countries, mainly Portugal, focusing nursing homes and in particular dementia care. The research of Ingalill R Hallberg is extensive focusing the oldest old and their long-term care, at home or in nursing homes and hospital care consumption.
