University of Manchester, UK

Brief description and aims of work

The project is being undertaken by the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) located within the School of Community-Based Medicine in the University of Manchester (UMAN), which is one of the four research schools in the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences. The main focus of our work in the PSSRU is community-based and long-term care, particularly in relation to services for older people and people with mental health problems. We have strong links with colleagues in other schools which include expertise in health and economics, old age psychiatry, and nursing with particular regard to dementia, health psychology and biostatistics. Since 1996 PSSRU has been a multi-site unit, with branches at the London School of Economics and the University of Manchester. Our research is disseminated to academic audiences, policy makers, and field professionals and managers.

The UK project team includes: Professor David Challis; Caroline Sutcliffe; Dr David Jolley; Professor Brenda Roe and Anthony Crook.
